Worked here for the Christmas season in 2017- what an awful experience. The main problem? The manager, Britany. Upon interviewing me, she was friendly and nice. Once hired, however, that dynamic completely changed. She was condescending, short, and rude as hell when I asked questions. She wouldn't look at me or greet me until I clocked in. There was also this golden misunderstanding about days I requested off (December 21st and 30th). Upon looking at my schedule, I saw that I was scheduled on for the 21st and off for the 30th. I approached Brittany, VERY NICELY, and inquired about being scheduled on the 21st. She stated that I hadn't requested it off, but I insisted that I had. She checked the portal and no day-off request was in place. I admitted that I must have made an error in submitting the request, but if at all possible I didn't want to work that day. She looked at me irritably from across the counter and asked "Well what day is it?" And I replied "It is the 1 year anniversary of my Dad's passing." She proceeded to ROLL HER EYES and SCOFF at me, whilst continuing her work, and say "NO, what day of the WEEK is it?" At this point I was rather shocked, embarrassed, and hurt so I replied with "Thursday", and she told me I needed to find someone to cover it if I wanted it off, then proceeded to walk away. I carried out the rest of my 6 hour shift, being polite and courteous. On my break I texted every girl I could to cover the shift, and no one could. On a following shift day, I talked to another supervisor who told me to call in sick. So I did, and that was that. My experience would have been so much better had she just been more personable, friendly, and worked with me to troubleshoot problems. I'm not someone who often complains, and I am no stranger to hard work (I've been in the food service industry for 12 years, I am a full time student taking 17 units and commuting from Ventura to SBCC, and working 20 hours a week). The issue with this location lies primarily in the management. There is very little respect from the floor salesgirls for the manager, because she pushes blame onto everyone except herself. Whenever she is scheduled off, or would be away on lunch, the entire atmosphere of anxiety and rudeness vanished, and the rest of us actually got along quite nicely. It was extremely discouraging to be treated the way I was, when I was one of the only employees (seasonal, at that) who consistently found tasks to carry out and complete instead of pulling out my phone or stand around talking. I understand that "Brit" is working A LOT in a high stress environment, but that doesn't give her the right to treat good employees like myself the way that I was. It was a relief to get the notice that my seasonal position was up. If they had offered me a part-time permanent position, I would have said no.

Brittany the "manager" was extremely rude and unprofessional. Did not know what merchandise she was selling and and said in a very rude tone" yes, go get them" when we told her "they're on the shelf in the back"
